How the Journey started - Mountain Home or Village Farmhouse ?

 In 2020 like most people we were stuck at home in Gurgaon for quite a few months. The first few months we were engrossed with work and enjoying the extra time we saved from commuting to and from the Office. Also Gurgaon was clean and pollution levels had dropped drastically. This made me and my wife wonder at how dirty and unkempt our cities had become and would be willing to retire and stay in Gurgaon after our working lives. 

As we heard of people having travelled back to their home towns and villages, it made  us wish why we did not have a place away from the polluted and overcrowded NCR where we could also work from home or spend our weekends. 

Now who does not want a weekend home or Village Farmhouse ?

What were our choices ?

• Make a lovely mountain cottage home

• Buy a property in one of the hill stations 

• Search for farmhouse property near Delhi. 

The first two properties were rejected as the travelling time to any destination in the hills from Gurgaon is more than 8 hours. With my bad back and aversion to driving long distances I ruled this option out. Moreover the real estate horror stories as well as unfinished homes in mountains was a deal breaker. Additionally we did not have the money to shell out for our “dream house in the hills”. 

Now the Farmhouse option !

The next best thought was to build a house in a farmhouse in Haryana. With the land rates in Gurgaon and Haryana touching the skies this option was also about to be scuttled. However, we had a brain wave that if both of us from Haryana and our parents had some land in the villages why could we not build a house there. 

So the land search began !
